30 OCT 2010 “Possible Aspects” EXHIBITION

Possible Aspects catalog cover

the exhibition is opened from 30 oct. to 15 nov. 2010, at the “Stefan Luchian” Gallery Botosani, Romania; at the vernissage had spoken Valentin Ciuca, a very resectable romanian art critic and art historian.

it is a duo exhibition with my father wich is also a visual artist, with a more figurativ approach but with a very conceptual re-interpretation of the reality

we have mixed our works, even at the first sight they seemed very different, with a closer look you can actual see some similarities… or not (I can). anyway, it is a pretty interesting experiment.

One of the themes of my artistic speech is the duality of artwork: considered as a concept but also as a visual signal. An artist is able to create an original artwork, first by his artistic intention and creating a concept, but also formally through the visuality of the created object. Without the image, the creation would be only a theoretic lecture.
But the real "raison d’être" of the visual arts could actually be the relation between the onlooker and the object. This aesthetic experience is first of all at the sensory level and then of a conceptual nature. The connection between these two aspects of artwork is the one which actually inspires the form of the object. The relation with the onlooker confers the real dimension.
Another concept that concerns me is the oneness of artwork in the historical context. According to some conventional opinions, any artistic proposal from nowadays was born or even put into practice in the early modernism. This assumption cannot be true considering all that happened in visual arts during the post-modernist period and the contemporary one. What the american art historian George Kubler said is a very eloquent fact: "No form of utterance was totally exploited in all its possibilities and solutions. A revaluation of all the problems in new terms is always possible and sometimes mandatory."
In terms of technical and visual approach, lately I am working mixed technique on canvas, on abstract compositions, trying to treat the canvas like three-dimensional object that can support many and diverse interventions; in some cases I have made three-dimensional objects that can be related to other works in exhibitions. In my abstract works, I have a central theme that I develop, exploring colors with an assumed self-censorship, trying to find relationships between tones, between textures, space and shapes.
